Algonquins of Ontario Kichi-Sìbì Guardians Pilot Project

Things we are monitoring

Lake trout are especially sensitive to the impacts of warming waters, which makes them an ideal indicator species for climate change. Lake trout eggs need the long, cold winter to be healthy. In order to protect lake trout, it is important to know where they are, the condition of the populations and where/when they are spawning. This pilot project aims to gather knowledge of the lakes in the AOO Settlement Area where lake trout are found.

Algonquins of Ontario
About our program

This project will help the AOO build skills within our Algonquin communities by providing training, experience and equipment for lake trout and environmental monitoring.
