About our program

Tla-o-qui-aht Tribal Parks was established in 1984 in response to the devastating practices of clear cut logging and the preservation of our Chiefs ancient rainforest and coastal waters protection on Wah-Nah-Jus Hilth-hoo-is (Meares Island). Since then our Tribal Park model has expanded to include all of Tla-o-qui-aht territories in its entirety. Tla-o-qui-aht Tribal Parks land and sea vision is to provide employment opportunities in the conservation economy. Our Tribal Parks Guardians are involved in environmental, archaeology and stewardship monitoring.

Tribal Park Guardians support the well-being of Tla-O-Qui-Aht peoples and the environment, through tribal park monitoring and enforcement, tourism guiding and management, and reconnecting our people to the territory. Find out more on Facebook
