Misipawistik Cree Nation has identified fisheries, moose and forestry as priorities. Monitoring approaches are in development.
The Misipawistik Cree Nation is developing a Guardian program to assert its rights and title to the territory to ensure the health and security of its land, water and people. MCN has many skilled hunters, trappers and fishermen whose skills and knowledge will be the backbone of the Guardian program. The program is called Kanawenihcikewak, which is a Cree word that means 'caring for something for someone'. Planning for this program started in 2017.
