Timiskaming First Nation First Nations Guardians Initiative

Moose populations, climate change, forestry and mining as well as any other factors pertaining moose management. We also aim to monitor and encourage the sharing of knowledge from elders, youth and land users.
Our program wishes to honour the responsibility of caring for our lands, waters & wildlife. As well as encouraging, educating and involving our community members, elders & youth.
We aim to use the "two-eyed" way of seeing, using Western sciences and indigenous ways of knowing to honour and protect of home (mother earth).
Our project will focus on Moose management, as well as building a more effective on-the ground stewardship program. We will target forest practices and approaches as opposed to specific sites and locations however, we will be paying special attention to our protected area of Bull Rock in terms of community engagement and youth training.
It is a priority of our project to ensure as much knowledge is recorded and preserved as well as shared appropriately, that will engage our youth and encourage them to begin to collect their own knowledge and observations.
