moose population, wood turtle habitat, water quality, butternut tree decline, lake sturgeon, monarch butterflies and bumble bees.
Using a two eyes seeing approach, we use traditional knowledge and western science to monitor activities that are taking place on our ancestral traditional territory. It is our cultural responsibility as Anishinabeg to care for our land and waters therefore, Nagadjitodjig Aki guardians play an important role in the health of our territory.
We work with non-government organisations to monitor the Ottawa river shed which encompasses our traditional territory. Nagadjitodjig Aki guardians also carry out aerial moose surveys in partnership with the government of Quebec and continuously monitor critical moose habitat. Patrolling, collecting data, working with Species at Risk, participating in Search and Rescue operations, and monitor wildlife habitat and waterways are some of the duties we carry out year round.
